Atalanta vs Real Madrid | Champions League Coach doesn’t want any excuses
Despite several absentees through injury, Zinedine Zidane wasn’t prepared to make any excuses ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League round of 16 first leg with Atalanta.
The French coach has a number of his key players, like captain Sergio Ramos, ruled out through injury but insists he is happy with those who are available.
“You talk to me about the injuries but I am happy with the players I have here,” he said.
“And we always go out to win, we are never happy with less than victory.”
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini joked that he was happy that Zidane wouldn’t be playing on Wednesday, and the Frenchman himself agreed.
“Luckily I’m not playing tomorrow, I can’t anymore. I’m finished. When I played for Juventus he was the youth coach.
“He has done a great job with Atalanta and I love him as a coach.”
Atalanta are known for their attacking football, much like Ajax who dumped them out of the competition two seasons ago, but Zidane wasn’t keen on comparing them.
“Offensively they are very good, they attack well and physically they are also very good.
“I don’t like comparing teams, but tomorrow it’s going to be a good game.”
